Act of Will

Greg & Julie Marriage Your Marriage Moment

Marriage is an act of will that signifies and involves a mutual gift, which unites the spouses and binds them to their eventual souls, with whom they make up a sole family – a domestic church.

                                                                                                                                                      ~ John Paul II

1 Are you making yourselves a “gift” to each other in your marriage?  Keep in mind that a gift is free given without conditions.

2. Is the love in your marriage based on feelings or is it an act of your will?  Do you keep score on who’s loving more?

3. Do you see your family as a “domestic church”?  What are you doing to strengthen your domestic church?

  1. Great quote and discussion questions! Thanks for the reminder and the helpful resource for when I meet with and prepare couples for marriage.

    • B, that is precisely what we are here to do – remind couples of what they said “I Do” to. Also, thank you for your efforts in preparing couples for marriage. If we get it right on the front end we can minimize a lot of hurt and pain down the road. Blessings!

  2. Thank you for Marriage Moment. It’s just what we need in this busy life. Something to help convict us – without judgement, God’s plan for us as husband and wife.

    • Hey, Mary Jane, that is, in part, why I post them. So that I/we can stay focused on what I/we need to do as well. Yes, we are our brother’s/sister’s keeper. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

  3. As St. John Paul II teaches, “Marriage is an act of will.” Love IS a decision we are called to make, to “will,” every moment of our lives, through God’s grace. For us weak humans, we need God’s help to love. God is the source of Love and we turn to Him with praise and thanks.
In the ministry of WorldWide Marriage Encounter we teach that “Love is a decision” to couples around the world.

    • Yes, Helen, all decisions are an act of the will. To marry, to love, to forgive etc. In all of those situations, we must make the conscious decision to do say and do the things that will yield a positive or negative result. Unfortunately, many allow their love to depend on their feelings, and that is never a good thing, as feeling come and go.

Thanks for your efforts on behalf of WWME, and teaching couples how to love.

    • You are quite welcome Peggy, and thank you for taking the time to let us know the value of these Marriage Moments!
